1. How much does it cost to be a student member of TIYO?
Annual membership cost is $145. Membership dues help offset the costs of uniforms, charitable performances and member travel. There are opportunities to save on membership dues by bringing friends!
2. What is the uniform for TIYO?
Students wear a black polo shirt with black pants, black socks and black close-toed shoes. One polo is provided as part of the membership fee. Students can purchase additional polo shirts for $15.
3. Do I have to travel with the orchestra?
Not every student has to travel, however we work hard to make trips affordable so that every student CAN travel. Think, for a minute, about an orchestra. If only the violins travel, the performance won’t go well. We’d like every student to have the opportunity to travel internationally with our group.
4. What if I want to travel but I can't afford it?
TIYO engages in a variety of fundraisers throughout the school year to help offset travel expenses. We work hard to make it possible for every student to travel. If you or your family has a particular concern with this, please talk to a Board member about your circumstances. We will do all we can to support participation in international travel.
5. What if I don't have a passport?
You’ll want to get one! Students do have to apply for their own passports. This is not something the TIYO organization can provide for you, however, we are happy to help you understand and complete the process!
6. What does the audition process look like?
It’s fun and worry free! TIYO does not have an audition process, we simply ask that members have at least 1 year of playing experience. TIYO is an inclusive organization. We seek to encourage participation by students from all walks of life and all school districts in Northwest Ohio. Simply join us for a rehearsal. Stay and talk with our Directors afterwards.
7. I've just started learning my instrument. Can I join TIYO?
Our only requirement is that members have at least a full year of playing experience. TIYO strives to present a professional appearance and sound in all of our performances. The music is fun, but it can sometimes be challenging to play. It is generally recommended that students join TIYO after they’ve mastered basic competency and musicality on their instrument.

Our students are vibrant and talented musicians. Toledo International Youth Orchestra invites musicians with a passion for playing and a spirit of adventure to join us in our current season. Come and play! We welcome you!
Membership in TIYO builds friendships and creates lifelong memories. Performance opportunities include formal concerts as well as smaller ensemble gigs. Travel opportunities are available and we work hard to fundraise to help make this an opportunity that can be available to everyone. The annual membership fee is $145. Scholarships and payment plans are available. Additional fees apply for musicians choosing to participate in travel experiences. TIYO musicians, families and board members engage in fundraising efforts to help reduce student travel expenses whenever possible.
